The Station was founded by local business owners who saw the need for healthy, quick, and affordable options in Historic Truckee Downtown. When the little yellow Union Pacific Railroad building on West River St. became available they jumped at the opportunity to fill this need and open a restaurant. After recruiting long-time friend and local culinary whiz Danny McCabe as a partner “The Station” was created! The Station is committed to providing the Truckee community and its visitors with delicious and nourishing food at reasonable prices in an inviting environment. The menu offers a range of thoughtfully prepared dishes packed with flavor and nutrition, highlighting seasonal ingredients and made with love.

Chef / Fearless Leader: Danny McCabe

Danny is passionate about food and sharing food experiences with people. He spent his childhood in the kitchen cooking with his father and started working as a prep cook in New York restaurants as a teen. After attending culinary school at Johnson and Wales the mountains called to Danny and in 2006 he made the pilgrimage to Tahoe. Danny honed his skills in Tahoe’s kitchens and under the tutelage of local chefs like Billy McCullough. In 2012 he landed a position as an Executive Chef and was able to explore collaborations with Tahoe Food Hub and create relationships with local farms and purveyors. As Executive Chef Danny implemented programs raising livestock and growing produce for the restaurant. He was able to feed the pigs and chickens solely from restaurant food scrapings while composting to nourish the restaurant’s garden. These experiences along with extensive travel inspire the flavors and the sustainable ethos of Danny’s culinary style, which he describes as “Creating vibrant colorful plates with bright flavors showcasing seasonal ingredients at their peak”.
